Ben Kingsley & Brie Larson Join Brooklyn Bridge

Tuesday, 16th September 2014

Goldcrest Films Managing Director Pascal Degove announced today that  Hollywood legend Ben Kingsley and rising talent Brie Larson will star alongside Daniel Radcliffe in Killer Films’ Brooklyn Bridge.  Written and directed by Douglas McGrath (Oscar nominee Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow, Infamous, Nicholas Nickleby) the film is scheduled to shoot in  Spring next year and further casting announcements are anticipated.

Inspired by true events, Daniel Radcliffe will play the brilliant but inexperienced engineer Washington Roebling who is left to oversee the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge when his father (Ben Kingsley) passes away. Besieged by calamity, danger and doubt, Washington’s obsession threatens his health and to drive his family apart until he discovers he has an improbable ally… His charming and shrewd wife Emily (Brie Larson).

Ben Kingsley’s name is synonymous with an array of kinetic performances that have enthralled audiences and critics alike.  The most indelible of these are his Academy Award winning portrait of Gandhi in Sir Richard Attenborough’s beloved Oscar triumph of the same name, together with his unforgettable portrayals of Itzak Stern in Shindler’s List and as Don Logan in Sexy Beast.

In a forty year career, Kingsley has collaborated with a galaxy of filmmaking talent including Directors Steven Spielberg, Roman Polanski, Ridley Scott and Martin Scorsese and in front of the camera with Robin Williams, Robert Redford, Warren Beatty, Sir Christopher Lee and Sir John Gielgud. Today Kingsley remains as popular as ever and will soon be seen in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, Exodus: Gods and Kings, The Walk, The Boxtrolls and as the voice of Bagheera in Jon Favreau’s adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.

Following a multi-Best Actress award-winning performance in Short Term 12 (SXSW Grand Jury Award), and critically-acclaimed roles in Sundance favourite The Spectacular Now and Joseph Gordon Levitt’s directorial debut Don Jon, Brie Larson has cemented her reputation as one of the most in demand actresses. She will soon be seen this December in The Gambler from director Rupert Wyatt, the film adaptation of best-selling novel Room, and in Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck. Past credits include 21 Jump Street and an acclaimed portrayal as Toni Collette’s daughter in Showtime’s United States of Tara.

Brooklyn Bridge is produced by Christine Vachon for Killer Films (two-time Academy Award nominee Boys Don’t Cry, multiple award winner One Hour Photo) and by Rose Ganguzza.  Goldcrest Post (home to the Academy Award winning sound team from Les Misérables) will be providing picture and sound post production services.

Pascal Degove, Managing Director Goldcrest Films commented: “This is a film that distributors are really excited about. That this enthusiasm is shared by a highly commercial blend of acclaimed contemporary talent and acting royalty is really a testament to Doug’s script and his extraordinary strength as a filmmaker.”

Christine Vachon, Killer Films continued:  “We knew this was a special project from the moment Doug shared his script and it’s going to be thrilling to see it come to life in the hands of such talented, fearless and brilliant actors”.
