Goldcrest Celebrates 3 Titles on Oscar Shortlist

Goldcrest’s reputation as a home for quality filmed entertainment and prestigious documentaries continues.

Following the announcement of the documentary category shortlist by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences 3 of the 15 films selected are represented by Goldcrest:

The Sundance Special Jury Prize (World Cinema Documentary) winner Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer tells the story of the three young women who galvanised global support when they were sentenced to seven years in a Russian prison for a satirical performance is a Moscow cathedral.

The Square is essential viewing; the immersive story of the on-going struggle for Egypt – as it continues to happen. Starting in Tahrir Square in the days leading up to the fall of Mubarak, the film follows young Egyptian revolutionaries on their life changing journey. From poor to privileged, from secular to religious they reveal the euphoria of victory, the promise of elections, the uncertainty of Military rule and an insight into the present chaos – a bloody conflict of shifting alliances, tear gas and tanks.

A work in progress screened at Sundance and won an Audience Award despite being unfinished. Director Jehane Noujiam has doggedly continued filming and editing as events evolve over the summer and this extraordinary film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. Never before has a documentary film won the Audience Award at both Sundance and Toronto.

Produced by Goldcrest for HBO and being sold by Goldcrest Which Way is the Front Line From Here ? The Life and Time of Tim Hetherington is directed by Academy Award nominee Sebastian Junger and traces his Restrepo collaborator’s work across the world's battlefields, to reveal how he transcended the boundaries of image-making to become a luminary in his profession.

Additionally Goldcrest’s post production arm, home to Academy Award winning sound team from Les Miserables, provided post production services on God Loves Uganda.
